Complete Blood Count: Complete Blood Count Test, Automated and Manual Test

Complete Blood Count (CBC) is referred to as Full Blood Exam (FBE), Full Blood Count (FBC) or Blood Panel. It is a test recommended by doctors or medical professionals to know the information of the cells in a patient’s body. Leukocytes which are the red blood cells, Erythrocytes which are the white blood cells and Thrombocytes which are platelets, are cells that circulate in the blood stream.
Many forms of diseases can be caused due to abnormally high or low blood count. The complete blood count can give a clear picture of the overview of a person’s general health status. The normal count of White Blood Cells in a person is 4,300 and 10,800 cells per cubic millimeter. The normal count of Red Blood Cells is generally between 4.2-5.9 million cells/cmm.
Complete Blood Count Test:
It is one of the most commonly preferred blood tests by the physicians. This test includes the complete calculation of formed elements of the blood. This is conducted with the help of certain machines which analyze the different components of blood in a minute. These machines can measure the concentration of red blood cells, white blood cells and platelets present in the blood.
Automated and Manual Blood Count:
The blood collected for the test is mixed and it is placed on a rack of the analyzer. This machine consists of different kinds of components to analyze different elements present in the blood. The number and different types cells within the blood can be measured with the help of cell counting components. Through manual blood count, abnormal cells can also be counted. This can be done with the help of a Blood Film.
Functions of Complete Blood Count:
- The cells present in the complete blood count have very unique functions. White blood cells help the body fight against the infections and are an essential part of the immune system.
- Red blood cells help in transporting oxygen to all the cells in the body. Hemoglobin molecule acts as a vehicle that transports oxygen to all parts of the body.
- Platelets play a major part in the blood clotting system and help the body by stopping bleeding.
